Artist Statement
For many years, I have had an obsessive vision of a dream world and have been drawing, painting and sculpting it, trying to figure out what it means. I feel like a prophet with a message about creatures from another world and the ultimate destruction of this world and the human race.
The vision is always with me; I can’t turn it off. The only solution is to create work about it. The more I see of the dream world or vision, the more it resembles a giant puzzle I’m trying to put together.
All of my artwork is a first person view seen through the eyes of the Dr. Z, the scientist/archeologist, who has transported through a gateway to another universe. As Dr. Z explores this universe he records everything he sees. What we see is everything he has recorded and brought back, which includes the origins and the fate of the human race.
Sculptures and busts of the creatures show the viewer a three-dimensional view, while the masks I make off the busts allow viewers to channel the creatures and add an aspect of performance. There will also be paintings to show the viewer what the creatures look like as well as some of the scenarios from the other world.
